Phillies get hot out in the desert

Velasquez gets his 4th win of the season for the Phils - record now at 4-6

The Phillies were hot out in Phoenix yesterday, yes, it was a 115 degrees outside in the area of the stadium, but inside the Chase Field stadium, it was the Phillies who brought out the bats and smashed 13 hits and scored 7 runs on the night for a much needed win.

The D-backs were hot, they had their way with the Nationals winning 2 out of 3 from them. Prior to that, the D-backs weren't all that hot in the past many days though as they lost 3 of 4 to the Marlins in Miami.

What changed with the Phillies? They were getting hits and scoring runs finally. The Phils again had many chances they were 5-19 with RISP, so the score actually should have been higher for them on the 7-3 win. The Diamondbacks committed 3 E on the night.

A slightly trimmed beard for Harper as he plays with the Phils in AZ

Bryce Harper shaved his beard and adjusted his stance in an attempt to change things with him. He went 2-5 and left 4 on base last night, he didn't figure in on the win for the Phils last night with his contributions.

Of course winning calms the nerves of Phillies fans and media people, it takes away a lot of the 'sky is falling' comments about them, but we know from the way this season has progressed, is that this is just 1 win, they need to keep winning or else the naysayers will be back.

Looking forward to Jake Arrieta's start tonight at 9:40 vs. Mike Leake - can the Phils make it 2 in a row? Will Jake's arm hold up? Will the Phillies keep on hitting, and scoring? All questions we'll see answered tonight.
