Trout will never be a Phillie it appears now

Mike Trout and the Anaheim Angels shocked the world yesterday by announcing a mega-deal that will keep Mike Trout an Anaheim Angel for the next many years. The notion that Trout would be a Phillie someday just sort of went up in smoke for many fans that were perhaps dreaming of a Trout/Harper combination being possible at some point in the future.

What stood between the dreams of Trout becoming a Phillie was a bit more that $430 Million dollars. That is an insane amount of money, you could nearly build a stadium for that kind of cash. It's a 12 year deal that locks up Trout till he is 39 years old.

The dream of Trout being a Phillies player someday was fueled by a speculation that Mike would be more comfortable around his hometown of Millville NJ, and playing with the Phillies would have accommodated that prospect. It's true that Trout is having a very large home built currently in Millville, but in this day and age, with all the plane rides that baseball players take, it seems Trout is just fine in California and just because he is from Millville doesn't necessarily mean that he is more comfortable playing here.

The Angels took a chance with Trout, they signed him, gave him an opportunity to play, and look what Trout has accomplished. There is a lot to be said about a guy like Trout wanting to stay with the organization that signed him and scouted him out of high school right under the noses of the Phillies scouts who were only just a short drive away.

The Phillies have their own new chapter, a goal of making the playoffs this year. The Angels have had the best player in baseball on their team for several years now, they added a couple more and have had Pujols on the team as well, but have went nowhere in the postseason. That's ok for Phillies fans. We can live with that, and we can live with the fact that Trout will probably never be a Phillies player.
