The Phillies on Independence Day

No fireworks tonight at CPB, they will be on the Delaware River near Penn's Landing tonight

What a historic day for the country, the 4th of July, the day that is celebrated for the birth of the country and a special day around the city of Philadelphia as well. The place where this country got it's first capital with the Declaration of Independence from England way back in 1776.

Fitting that we have baseball to celebrate in the city today as well, with the Phillies taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 2 of a 4-game series with them. The Phils were victorious in Game 1, winning 4-0 before 26,498 fans paying to watch baseball.

The Phils have been very tough to watch so far this year, this win yesterday was the 28th win of the year but the bad news is there is 53 losses. There's been a lot of talk with what the next move of the team will be.

The team called up Nick Williams a week or so ago, who has been dubbed the 4th best player in the Phillies minors, and he has really been doing quite well. He's so far been in just under 6 games, but he's shown a great amount of poise and appreciation for being brought up to the big leagues.

You have to start wondering if what we are seeing in the minors is going to soon be on this Phillies team and start to play as well as they are playing in the minors? If so, the future could be brighter than some of us expect.

Last year at this time, the picture was a whole lot rosier for this team, the Phils won on July 4th for the 38th time and beat the Atlanta Braves 8-2 at Citizens Bank Park in front of 19,064 fans. For a lot of us, even though this team wasn't all that good last year, we kind of expected an improvement this year with the team.

This afternoon at 4:05 PM , it's going to be Mark Leiter Jr vs Jamison Tallion
