Phils to take on rare opponent in Seattle

Interleague play allows the Mariners to play the Phillies for a brief 2-game series at CBP

Seattle is about as far as you can get away from Philadelphia in the US, it's tucked away in the upper northwest portion of the country in Washington state. The baseball team from there is also in the American League, so they don't make it to Philadelphia very often. The last time they were in Philly was 2014.

This Seattle franchise that started up in 1977 has been on the longest drought in baseball by teams that have made the playoffs, the Mariners haven't been to the playoffs since 2001. To compound this, the team has never made it to the World Series. They've lost in 3 series in the ALCS to make it to the World Series, and another time lost in the ALDS and that's all of the playoff appearances that this team has made.

The Phillies on the other hand have only been to the playoffs 14 times in a franchise history that stretches back to 1883. The Phillies have not been to the playoffs since 2011 when they lost in the LDS, so it's been 5 full seasons since this team has seen the postseason.

All most Phillies fans have heard about Seattle is that they have pitcher Felix Hernandez, other than that, we haven't heard much about this Seattle team and it really hasn't mattered that the Mariners got Hernandez because nothing really great happened in association with that. Hernandez has now quietly spent his whole career in Seattle but he's now 31 years old and on the 10-day DL for the team.

The overall record between the Phils and the Mariners is only 12 total games up to today and the Mariners lead in the series 8-4.

We also welcome Chooch back as he's with the Mariners.

Here's what 'King Felix' has done over his career:
