Phils show some fight in Battle on the Bay

The Phils roughed up Mad Bum, and Johhny Cueto on this West Coast road trip, as the fight in them has reappeared

The Phils showed a lot of why they are sometimes called the Fightin Phils. Yesterday in San Francsico, the team battled back to tie the game several times.

The game was tied 7-7 in the 9th when the Giants got a runner on second and then a hit to drive him home and win the game.

Carlos Ruiz had 3 RBI on the day, he got a hit to tie up the game at 7-7 in the 8th. The two teams combined for 28 hits on the day. Peter Bourjos batted 3-4 for the Phils, Cody Asche went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Odubel Herrera chipped in a solo HR in this game.

Angel Pagan went 4-5 for the Giants with 2 RBI on the afternoon and scored 3 of the Giants 9 runs. The Giants had 15 runners in scoring position in this game, they only converted 5 of those runners into scores and the Phils 4-9 with RISP in this entertaining game.

Johnny Cueto got roughed up in this game, giving up 6 R on 8 H in his 6.0 innings. Aaron Nola gave up 10 H and 5 ER on the day as both starting pitchers didn't figure in the decision for win or loss in this game.

Conor Gillespie, Giants third baseman, got the winning hit for the Giants, he said that the Giants have great chemistry on the field and it is a great team. Manager Bruce Bochy got his 800th win as the Giants manager with the win.

Next up on the west coast road trip is the Arizona Diamondbacks for the Phils. The Phillies would do well to try to pay back the Diamondbacks for the 4-game sweep that the team did on the Phils at Citizens Bank Park that started on June 17th at home for the Phils.

The Phils will face Zack Greinke on Tuesday night, his last 3 starts have resulted in 2 wins for him and the Diamondbacks.
