Jeanmar Gomez would be the only choice for a player on the Phillies to represent them at the All Star game this year
The last few weeks have been brutal on Phillies fans. A 9-game losing streak and only a few wins sprinkled into the month, as the Phillies have only won 6 games in the month of June so far. The June record as of today before the final game in San Francisco on the road trip that continues to Arizona next, has the Phils with a 6-18 record for June. The Phils won in San Fran by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night.
What happened to this team?
Starting pitching which had been very good to start off the year deserted this team in the month of June. For some reason, it all went bad for Phillies starters, and the offense really was not ever producing well enough for this team early on or even now.
The Phils still have a ton of games coming up, the season isn't yet half over, but the opponents they will face soon have been on the upswing while the Phils are on the elevator down. You kind of had the impression that the new GM, Matt Klentak, had a magical potion with this team in the beginning of the year, but that has since been debunked and is nothing more than black magic at this point.
What can be done with this team? Little is being said by Klentak, and manager Pete Mackanin just goes through the motions of describing all of the bad play that we have been seeing on the field by this team. Should anyone be in the All Star game from this team? Maybe Jeanmar Gomez with the great job that he stepped up and has done, but no one else would probably qualify for All Star status.
All of the coaches whose players also underperformed in the last couple years are all still employed by the team as well, so the upper management apparently doesn't feel that they aren't doing a bad job either. So the Phillies are again at a status quo, have ever bad that quo seems to be.
