Phillies vs Reds preview

The Phillies would do well to pitch around Joey Votto in this series - he's a game changer for them

The Cincinnati Reds are in town for a 3 game series against the Phillies.

The Reds are coming off of a 3-game sweep of the Washington Nationals who won their previous 9 series until they pulled into Cincinnati for the weekend series that started last Friday night.

Just what the Phillies need, but we've seen this before. A team that you would think would run all over the Phils suddenly finds out that the Phillies aren't much of a pushover at all. Hopefully, this is what happens in Game 1 of the series that is due to start Tuesday at 7:05 PM with Johnny Cueto going for the Reds, and Sean O'Sullivan on the mound for the Phillies.

Cueto has been a really good pitcher over the years, but can't seem to dominate the Phillies, in 8 career starts, Cueto is 1-4 overall against the Phils.

In the last 5 seasons from 2010-2014 - the Phillies have compiled a 21-13 record against the Reds in the regular season.

The sweep of the Nationals by the Reds was only their 2nd series sweep of the year, the first coming against the Pirates early in the Reds season. The first baseman, Joey Votto, made his 1,000th appearance in a Reds uniform on Sunday's game against the Naitonals.

Believe it or not...  The Reds haven't won a series in Philadelphia since 2006. That is hard to believe but true.

Next week when the Phils visit Cincinnati on June 8th, it will be the 1,000th game played by the Reds at Great American Ballpark.

It's been a while since we've seen a really good Reds team, they won the World Series in 1990 and that was the last year they really have turned in a great post-season.

The All-Star Game for 2015 will be held at Great American Ballpark and former Phillies and Reds great, Pete Rose, will be taking part in the celebration there in some manner. Rose is trying again to get reinstated to baseball.
