Schilling adds to list of Phillies with cancer

Curt Schilling announced that he has cancer as many published reports have reported. He is the latest Phillies player to announce that he has the illness. The announcement was made on ESPN, which employs Schilling as an analyst.

Though Schilling didn't disclose what type of cancer it is, another Phillies pitcher has been affected by this disease.

Other Phillies that have been publicized with cancer; Tug McGraw, John Vukovich, Ken Brett who died in 2003, and Johnny Oates who died in 2004, and most recently Darren 'Dutch' Daulton. There have been several other major league players have been diagnosed with the same brain cancers that have affected some of the Phillies players. Some wonder if it's more than coincidence though with the Phillies players.

Read a USA Today article from last year after Darren Daulton revealed he had brain cancer last year about the many Phillies who now have had this dreaded affliction.

Schilling has taken a high road on this announcement and looks forward to the battle, it's very early on in the battle.

Here's a quote for Schilling at the announcement:

“I’ve been so very blessed and I feel grateful for what God has allowed my family to have and experience, and I’ll embrace this fight just like the rest of them, with resolute faith and head on.”
