Phillies have been bad on low scoring games this year

So the summer of 2013 is just about run it's course, yes officially we have into September before it's over on the calendar but with one more week until Labor Day, the Phillies plans for the postseason this year are just about nil.

What happened to this team will be the subject of debate that carries over into the Fall and Winter this year, and there will be opinions from every corner of the baseball universe telling us how everything came unravelled in this 2013 Phillies season.

This morning I thought that it would be fun to bring up a few stats on the team and this one in particular stood out. I computed (with the tremendous help of BaseballReference.com) all of the Phillies games in which they scored 2 runs or less this year. Surprisingly, that number was 43 times over the course of this season.

Even more surprising was the number of wins/loss ratio were on those games, the Phillies only won 3 games out of 43 games when they have scored 2 or less runs. It was the worse ratio in the National League. Even the Padres that had 48 games when they scored 2 runs or less in a game walked away with 10 wins. The Miami Marlins have occupied the bottom of the NL East all year long practically and as of this morning had an incredible 62 games that they've scored 2 or fewer runs in a game, but they won 11 of those games.

Here's the chart on the NL with scoring 2 or fewer runs in a game:
