Phillies playing top team in NL in Cardinals

The Cardinals have been on a bit of a roll, they were the first team in the NL to reach 60 wins, that came with the victory against the Phillies on Tuesday night. The Cards have reeled off a record of 7-3 in their last 10 games prior to the start of Wednesday night's game.

It's no accident that the Cardinals are playing well, looking at their lineup they have a well balanced attack that features a lot of the line up in the .300 BA range or above:

The Cardinals are also riding high as of Wednesday afternoon, they were 23 G above .500 on the season which was their season high. The fact is that the Cardinals are just playing good solid baseball, and in contrast it shows a lot about the deficiencies of the Phillies and where they aren't doing well.

The Phillies will win a couple and then drop back and lose 4-5 games in a row to nullify their winning streaks, they just cannot find a a solid ground to build from.

If the Phillies do 'sell' in the next week without acquiring anyone who can help them, it is all for nothing. It's not going to serve the Phillies good now or in the near future to do that. To give and take but to get someone that is going to make an impact and help invigorate this team is what the Phillies need to do. They have plenty of trade bait, but does any contending team need the services of a well paid superstar that is in need of a new home? That is more the question, simply dumping salary doesn't make a team better, in fact it usually makes it much worse.
