Lee and Amaro in happier times
It's the double whammy. The Phillies road trip to St. Louis to visit the Cardinals and then onto Detroit to face the Tigers. We had hoped for them to play well during the remaining days of July, but the Phillies have come up empty.
Some good news in the mix as the Phillies have been named as a team that may land a top prospect, wow, why don't I have such a good feeling about this. The pitcher's name is Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, and he has reportedly signed with the Phillies for what has been printed as much as $59M for 6 years. Why don't I feel so good about this?
Cliff Lee our top ace this year is sidelined with a stiff neck tonight against the Detroit Tigers, they usually do this only after a deal has been struck for a player of his caliber around the trade deadline, and this appears to be just that. Is Lee on his way out of Philadelphia?
The Phillies have found the funk again, they can't get out of their own way, and have been losing more than one of the top contestants on The Biggest Loser. They have been stumbling and bumbling their way through baseball games now for about a week straight. Is there any end to this type of play?
Phillies have not scored more than five runs in last three games combined. Scored just 10 in last 6 losses.

Teams are circling around the Phillies now like buzzards waiting to pick away at the best parts of this team. It's in a state of collapse as we chug into the end of July, and through it all, Cliff Lee, one player that has been garnering a lot of interest, likes his team, the Phillies. ESPN reports a lot of interest in him though, with a signing of a pitcher @ $50-$59M like it has been rumored to have happened does this make Lee expendable?
Here's what ESPN says:
