Phillies head to Miami with some renewed offense

Miami fans unite in ownership dismay at recent happenings with the team

The Phillies have made it interesting in the first 9 games of the season, they've had a lot of runs scored against them (54) and the last couple nights, they've scored a lot of runs to bring more of a balance to their runs scored (42). They head down to Miami where the Marlins are really doing poorly, the Marlins are 1-8 and still recovering from all of the best players being traded away from the team in the offseason last year.

The Miami Marlins still have one player that stands out on that team, Giancarlo Stanton, who used to be called Michael Stanton. Stanton has had a terrible start to 2013 though, he's struck out 12 times and has a .167 average as of Thursday morning. The Marlins also have a few ex-Phillies on the team, Placido Polanco and Juan Pierre are on the Marlins, of course Pierre started his career off in Colorado, but in 2003 he and the Florida Marlins were the World Champions of baseball.

The fans that were onboard with the new stadium in Miami apparently have deserted this team now that the owner, Jeffrey Loria, who traded most of the players he brought in to open up the new stadium in Miami and the new name that the team took on in 2012 with the Miami Marlins, formerly the Florida Marlins.

The Marlins started the first 6 games of the 2013 season on the road, the home opener was on Monday, April 8th and there was a crowd of 34,439 in attendance for Opening Day for home, but then the next two games less than half of that opening day crowd were at each game. There have been petitions that call for the owner to be removed as a lot of the financing for the new stadium in Miami came from tax dollars and there was an opinion that Loria is actually hurting this team more than helping it.

The Phils have Thursday off and start the Marlins series on Friday night at the now only 1 year old Marlins Stadium. John Lannan gets the ball for the Phillies, he pitched 7.0 innings on his first outing and earned a ND for it. We'll see if the Phillies can get Lannan his first win in a Phillies uniform on Friday night.
