Gio and Wright powers USA past PR

Gio Gonzalez pitched a masterful five innings in a 7-1 victory last night over Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Gonzalez did not give up any runs and David Wright drove in five in the Team USA victory. There was over 32,000 fans in the stands in Miami to watch this game, and Ivan 'Pudge' Rodriguez threw out the first ceremonial pitch.

The next team that the USA squad will face is the Dominican Republic on Thursday night. The Dominicans are favored to win the World Baseball Classic, and now Team USA must beat them to continue towards striving for the championship.

The lone representative from the Phillies on team USA is Jimmy Rollins, he went to 2-5 and scored two runs in the game last night. Rollins has been doing very well on the Team USA squad, he's currently batting.400 in the lead-off spot on the team.

David Wright's new nickname is Capt. America and he seems to have elevated his game greatly for this series and is taking advantage of all the opportunities, Wright has 10 RBIs and is batting .526 in the series.

Japan and the Netherlands have already secured spots in the semifinals in the Championship Round. This WBC winds up starting this weekend with the championship series being held in San Francisco. The Championship will be Tuesday, March 19th at 8:00 PM Eastern.
