Phils bolster hitting department with steroid linked Joyner

The Phillies hired another coach to help the Phillies in their hitting. Former MLB player Wally Joiner was hired to help new batting coach Steve Henderson give their expertise to the Phillies offense. Joyner will be an assistant coach with the Phillies.

Joyner won't be in the dugout with the team during games, as the rules are limited with how many people can actually be in the dugout during the game, but he will be in the background helping players with their swing and possibly finding out why they aren't hitting the baseball.

Joyner was one of many players implicated in the 409 page 'Mitchell Report' of December 2007 that named players that took steroids or had been implicated in taking steroids. There has been criticism on how baseball used this information and acted upon it as written about in an ESPN article here.
