What is so significant about July 29th? Well, that is the date today for one thing, but for Phillies fans, it's usually the date that we've come to find new additions to the team.
This year, any such addition could include a subtraction as the trade deadline comes nearer. Any players that the Phillies feel that they either don't want to deal with after the season, or just think that moving them could be better for the team could be done today.
Ruben Amaro Jr. was interviewed on a local sports radio program in the Philadelphia area recently, he said he had just talked to a GM the night before about an 'intriguing' deal proposition. That was an interesting comment from him, and you could tell it had his full attention.
The players named for a possible move out of Philly have been Shane Victorino, and Hunter Pence. Somehow, I don't think that is everyone that is possibly also on that list.
The series in Atlanta is more or less telling Phillies management that there needs to be change somewhere on the Phillies. If not the players, then it could be management. Charlie Manuel has stooped to question the players 'heart' for winning. They haven't responded to the comment that positively so far. Surely the coaching staff is in jeopardy as a lot of these players are performing no where near where they should be.
What will happen? Will the Phillies stand 'pat' and do nothing? Will it be 'wheel and deal' and perhaps trade a centerpiece of the team. Is Utley or Howard part of these dealings? Or are they untouchable when it comes to making a deal.
Or of course we will wait until Monday, or Tuesday for the trade deadline before anything happens.
