Phils return home after win last night vs Nats

The Phillies returned home after salvaging the third game of a hot series with Washington. The game with the Nationals was riveting, and Cole Hamels was on the top of his game.

Nineteen year old phenom, Bryce Harper was hit with a pitch in the first pitch of the game to him , and raised some eyebrows when he stole home on Hamels after he threw it to first base while holding a runner on. The ESPN Sunday Night broadcast crew jumped on the Harper bandwagon from that moment on, and Harper captured a lot of twitter comments in the process.

The game from that point got very interesting. Hamels was plunked by the Nats starter, Jordan Zimmermann, who somehow threw one into his legs.

After the game, Hamels admitted to the press that he meant to hit Harper, it's very rare that a pitcher will admit that to anyone after the fact, but that's what Cole did.

The Phillies again found their offensive groove last night piling up 9 runs by the time it was over.

The Nationals lost their right fielder, Jayson Werth, who suffered a broken wrist in the game. Werth hasn't made it a secret that while he used to play for the Phillies, he now wants to beat them everytime he goes out there. Which is the way a player should feel.

The Mets come to town for a three game series starting tonight, then the Phillies have Thursday off and San Diego comes to town for a weekend series. Look for my Q & A I did with Metsblog for this series with the Mets.
