Cliff Lee pitches a gem in SF, but Phillies can't get going on offense
'It was a classic pitcher's duel', was the words that Cliff Lee described last night's game in San Francisco as. And indeed it was, but the Phillies ended up losing the game 1-0 and left San Francisco with a 1-2 road trip under their belts.
I hope we don't hear a lot of games that are described like this, that the Phillies happen to lose. Cliff Lee and Matt Cain didn't figure into the win/loss column for this game though, for the Phillies, it was Antonio Bastardo to get the loss and it was Clay Hensley who picked up the win for the Giants in the bottom of the 11th inning.
It's on to San Diego now, as the Phillies settle in for 4 games vs. the Padres. The Phillies may catch a break in San Diego as the Pods are 3-10 on the season so far, the Phillies bring their 5-7 record into town to see what they can do about improving it.
Two more late starts at 10:05 pm local Philly time for tonight and Friday night, and for the weekend, it's 8:35 PM on Saturday night and 4:05 PM on Sunday for the Phillies game times.
Vance Worley (0-1 3.75 ERA) pitches for the Phillies tonight, vs. Joe Wieland (0-1 10.80 ERA) going for the Padres.
