Juan Perez pitches a perfect 10th
The Phillies will have to have new heroes stepping up to win ballgames for them now that Placido Polanco and Shane Victorino have been on the DL. Both Polly and Victorino were voted to the All-Star Game and for good reason, they’ve contributed a lot to this team in the way of good defense and most importantly, good offense.
Polanco has been the Phillies player along with Victorino with the highest BA all season, and now it’s time to have other players step up and start assuming a leading roll with the team.
Last night was that kind of game. In the 10th inning, it was Raul Ibanez who stepped up and grabbed some glory with a walk-off home run. It was Raul’s 6th walk-off in his career and it couldn’t have come soon enough on this night. Raul’s previous walk-off was in 2009, when Ibanez won a game for the Phillies against the San Diego Padres.
Roy Halladay survived a very humid and nasty night with a two hour delay to pitch 7 innings and only give up 2 runs. An unlikely hero, Juan Perez, won the ball game for the Phillies as he came in to strike out three Braves in the top of the 10th in order.
Game 2 is on Fox this afternoon.
