Beckett vs Lee tonight, to usher in Boston series

It's Summer, bring on the Red Sox!

It's been one of the most hyped series of the year when the 2011 schedule was announced. It's the Boston Red Sox tonight at Citizens Bank Park for the start of a three game series.

The Red Sox have a loyal following of fans, and they'll be there tonight to watch Josh Beckett, who is having a great year so far with a 6-2 record and 1.86 ERA. He'll face one of the hottest pitcher's in the NL, Cliff Lee. Lee has turned it up a couple notches in his last few starts. During the month of June, Lee has started 4 games so far and he has 4 wins, with 2 of those a Complete Game.

This is the series you've been waiting for as a baseball fan, as the middle of the season is here and it's baseball weather out there tonight. It'll be hot, and humid tonight and that tends to do something with baseballs. They fly a little further, and they seem to get just a little more lively in the humidity.

Don't think about October just yet, there is plenty of baseball season left to be played. It would be presumptuous to think that the Phillies and the Red Sox will meet again in October. There is now 15 days until the All Star Game though and tonight we're going to see two of the best teams in baseball go at it.

Cliff Lee so far in June 2011 prior to tonight's start:

  •   4 games started, 4 wins
  •   2 CG and 2 SO in those 4 wins
  •  33 innings pitched, gave up 19 hits only 1 ER
  •   ERA in June is a scorching .027
  •   Combined from his 4 starts in June: 6 BB, 24 SO, 0 HR
