Phils offense putters out in desert

Watch out for the rough, I mean mountain there!

All good things eventually come to an end, and last night the Phillies win streak came to an end. It wasn’t due to the lack of good pitching, Cliff Lee looked marvelous and so did Ian Kennedy for the Diamondbacks. The difference was that the DBacks scored 4 runs and the Phillies got shut out. Lee struck out 12 as the Phillies offense puttered out and couldn’t get it going.

This game was a classic ‘pitcher’s duel’ which was scoreless into the bottom of the 3rd inning, when Cliff Lee gave up a long center field homerun to Chris Young. Lee then gave up an opposite field homerun to Gerardo Parra in the bottom of the 5th. Lee didn’t pitch that bad at all, he just gave up two long balls and the Phillies couldn’t answer with much in return.

The Phillies record falls to 15-7 on the season and Roy Oswalt is the pitcher for tonight’s 9:40 PM ET start. Oswalt is still the only Phillies starter without a loss on the season, and I don’t think he gets a loss tonight.

As a side note to my post from yesterday, both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres came into the Monday night games with 4 game losing streaks and both teams ended up winning last night.
