Here’s hoping everyone is having a great holiday season. With all of the Christmas magic now drifting into thin air, it’s time to see what a lot of Phillies fans are hoping for in the upcoming season in 2011.
The addition of Cliff Lee just before the holidays was just what we needed to give us a special extra present that probably everyone thought was impossible. Everyone but Cliff Lee that is. With his return to Philadelphia, Lee has solidified the Phillies pitching rotation to near monumental status. A rotation that has never before been seen on the Phillies organization is going to make it’s debut in 2011.
What can we expect from this rotation? I think it’s a question of staying healthy for the whole season for Hamels, Halladay, Lee, and Oswalt. If this foursome can stay healthy we could see a historic, record breaking win total for the Phillies this season.
Phillies Top Winning seasons (since 1950) 85 or more wins:
Looking at the chart, I think the Phillies have a legitimate chance to break the all-time wins in a regular season mark. This has been the life of the Phillies fan before the last couple of years, as you can see even when the Phillies have terrific seasons, they just couldn't follow it through to get to the World Series on some of the years that the team had its most win totals. We've been extremely lucky to see such great results with the Phillies as we have in the past few seasons. It may be the greatest moment in Phillies franchise history for this current stretch of time.
Let's look at the pitching records of the R2C2 Pitching rotations for the past three seasons:

You have to agree that this is a formidable pitching rotation for the Phillies. The bats will have to wake up for the Phillies as well. The lack of run support for both Hamels and Halladay last year was amazing to say the least. It is something this is a complete blog post within itself. We'll be looking at this and much more all through the winter, as we wait for late February and early March for news out of Spring Training 2011.
