Chalk tonight's win to another spectacular performance by Carlos Ruiz, who has come through in the clutch several times this week for the Phillies. He did very well again tonight as the Phillies rallied in the eighth inning by scoring six runs to come back on the New York Mets and hold on for the win 7-5.
Joe Blanton pitched seven strong innings but did not end up with a win tonight. The win went to Chad Durbin after the Phillies scored six times in the eighth inning to storm back into this game. JC Romero looked shaky again as he gave up a right-field home run, off the bat he thought was catchable as he was pointing to the sky like it was a catchable ball in the 9th inning. Two of the three runs of the home run were credited to Danys Baez, with only 1 run being charged to Romero though it was Romero who gave up the home run ball.
The Phillies did have plenty of opportunity in this game and converted 6-11 for RISP when it was all over. The Mets starting pitcher, Jon Niese, pitched a great game with seven strikeouts over seven innings and only allowing one run. He was victimized by his bullpen who let the Mets down again.
Brad Lidge got his 13th save of the season, as he got the final out in the ninth inning after Romero gave up a three-run home run.
The Mets star players, David Wright and Carlos Beltran were non-factors in this game as they had a combined 1-8 on the night. Jeff Francoeur is a certified Phillies killer, he had 3 hits and scored two runs on the night and he usually always seems to get hits and hurt the Phillies.
The two teams lock horns again tomorrow night at CBP, for Game 2 of the series with the Mets. it will be the marquee pitching matchup of the series, with Cole Hamels going against Johan Santana. Johan is approaching Hall of Fame numbers according to the 'Hall of Fame' monitor on Baseball-Reference, he doesn't do well against the Phillies though generally. I could comment on many things from this post including your terrible grammar; however, I will just point out how you say Jeff Francoeur is a certified Phillies killer.

Francouer's career AVG/OBP/SLG vs. Phillies: .269/.290/.401
This means he's worse against the Phillies than he is vs. the rest of the league because OBP is more meaningful than average. His OBP is Pedro Feliz-like (NOT good). This was before tonight's game though.
Take the 1 minute it takes to look up simple stats before you make an outrageous claim.
I stand by my comment that Jeff seems to hit the Phillies well. Take this stat for example.
ReplyDeleteFrancoeur in his career has the most plate appearances against Cole Hamels, that is a fact. His average is .295 against Hamels over his career, he has 13 hits in 44 AB off of Cole alone. These are all facts as you requested. I remember many games where Francoeur has hit well against the Phils besides this.
Your one minute that you looked up a simple stat didn't dive deep enough to support what you're saying.
As for my grammar, I don't think it's all that bad really.

ReplyDeletePitched is not the same tense as allowing. I'd say that's kind of bad.
You didn't say Jeff kills Cole Hamels. You said he kills the Phillies. I showed you that that isn't true.
He has a career .735 OPS. Against the Phillies, his OPS drops to .700. Clearly he does worse against the Phillies than he does on average vs. everyone else.
HAHAHA. Against Cole Hamels, his OPS drops again to .675. I won't take this to mean much because it's a small sample size (45 PAs). His OBP is worse than his BA. He has never walked against Cole Hamels. Batting average isn't that good of a metric for judging hitters.
Thanks for giving me a reason to look up more stats that further disprove you.
It is still my opinion that Jeff is a Phillies killer, don't spend too much time debunking me though, you probably have better things to do other than this.

ReplyDeleteHey, what do you think is up with JC? My take is he's not getting enough time on the mound recently. Even if he gave up runs last night, I approve of letting him pitch in a less risk situation.
I think taking the 9th away from Brad now and then does him good. Some of these guys thrive on that competition. I think he needs that more then this 'he's my closer' talk. Let him fight for it.

ReplyDeleteOf course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, the opinion Rich and Sherry are expressing is almost as bad as this opinion: The New York Yankees are a bad MLB organization. Yes, they've won 27 World Championships, but I've seen them lose a few games in person. They can't be good if they've lost a couple of games.
