Phillies trade deadline talks heating up

The trade deadline is looming and it looks as if the Phillies are in the market for a pitcher. Not any ordinary pitcher, but someone who is going to make an impact on this team. Who could it be? Some have speculated Roy Oswalt from the Houston Astros. Oswalt has demanded the team who picks him up also picks up his 2011 money of $16M on his contract and $16M for 2012. He’s saying don’t just use me as a rental. Smart move for him, but will it come back to haunt whoever may pick him up? I think he’ll stay in Houston forever with those demands. He’s just not that good.

There are other names out there. How about that Brett Allen Myers, talk about ‘swagger’, he put the ‘s’ in that word while in Philly during his years here. Although he may not have always done the ‘right thing’, he went out there and gave his best. He may be a long shot to return to the Phillies but the possibility exists.

Here’s a list of who’s out there (click on name for stats):

Those are some pitchers that could be moved, of course some teams may yield some surprises. The Tampa Bay Rays may be ready to part with someone, James Shields? They need an outfielder in Jason Werth. The most interesting pitcher to me from the list above is Ted Lilly. He’s got a lot of fire in him, and he is a lefty.  Lilly has a lot of experience and is in the twilight of his career, could this move bring him closer to winning a World Series?

The Phillies season is far from over, they have lost nothing yet. If you believe the baseball pundits, they say the season is over for the Phils, but I think they’ve lost their minds. The season has a lot of games left and the Phils aren’t out of it yet. Now if it were August 21st, I would say there may be a problem, but it’s still July the last time I looked.
