'Superman' Chase Utley is unfamiliar to the DL

It wasn't on this play that Chase was hurt, but a slide into second that injured his thumb

Chase Utley will be on the DL for the first time in a very long while. He's played through pain before, but in Game 1 against the Cincinnati Reds, Chase was sliding into second base and injured his thumb. He'll be out for at least 15 days and this will probably force him to miss the All Star Game in Anaheim, CA which is just two weeks away.
Placido Polanco is also on the DL at the same time, and it's going to be a tough few weeks for the Phils unless some of the replacement Phillies kick in some offense to make up for it. Last night, it was a three run home run by 2nd baseman Wilson Valdez to help the Phillies along with a home run from Brian Schneider. Those two hits paced the Phillies night on offense. It was only Wilson Valdez's 3rd HR on the year, and the 2nd for Schneider.

The last time Utley spent a time on the DL was 2007, after he was hit in the hand from a John Lannan pitch vs. the Nationals.

Today will tell more clearly how long Utley will be on the DL, when more testing is done.
