Phillies welcome Jays 'Home' with a 9-0 score

Good day eh? in Philadelphia, as the Jays are the home team in Philly

The Phillies were in road grays, the game wasn't a 'home' game for the Phillies even though the game was being played in Philadelphia. The announcers were in rare form, I am listening to a recap of tonight's game on the Toronto radio flagship, and they are really upset at this whole situation of having this whole series being 'perceived' as a 'home series' for the Blue Jays. The whole thing is a charade said one of the Blue Jays recap broadcasters.

Yes, this series will probably disappear in the record books, but for now, everyone is still so confused at this move by the MLB to make this a 'home' series for the Blue Jays. Technically, this won't count as home stats for the Phillies either. It will be all a 'road' series as far as that is concerned.

There were plenty of skits on the field with the Phillie Phanatic dancing with the Canadian Mounties and other Canadian references through out the night to make the Jays feel welcome. The Phillies did take batting practice last tonight and that was a good thing as usually the Phillies fans don't get to see much of their team take batting practice by the time the gates open.

The series will definitely have a place in Phillies history no doubt. It's the first time that the team has been the road team in Philadelphia. It was also Ryan Howard getting the duties of DH tonight in Philly for the first time as the Phillies 'road' trip in their own stadium.

The baseball pundits are still buzzing about the recording of these games as 'home' and 'away' but the MLB will see to it that it is done by their rules and that is for sure. Game 2 continues on Saturday afternoon with Cole Hamels on the mound for the Phillies. A historic series for sure, and one that will probably never happen again. So, enjoy it while it lasts. The Phillies in their road gray, and the Jays at 'home' in Philly again.

Phillies win game 1 of the series behind Roy Halladay who was to have an emotional return to his home of many years in Toronto but with the series moved to Philly, he looked very comfortable beating his old team. The score was 9-0 and the big Phillies offense flexed it's muscle tonight. Unfair for them? Who is to say, the other teams must follow the edict of the MLB, but if the season came down to 1 or 2 games, will they look back at this series in June in Philly for the answers?

  • Did you know that the Phillies were actually known as the 'Blue Jays' in the World War II era of 1943 and 1944. They even wore a blue uniform with 'Phillies' in blue across the front and a 'blue jay' bird on the sleeve.
