Home Opener today for Hamels

Hamels gets the ball for the Home Opener

The home opener is something that Phillies fans have waited for since the loss in the World Series in Game 6 last season. Phillies fans camped over night to get their chance to see the team if tickets go on sale at the ballpark.

You can buy tickets at if you're still looking to go without having to spend the night on the sidewalk like many fans did last night. There are many tickets available on stubhub at prices you would consider somewhat of a bargain compared with some previous home openers.

This is the first time in many years that the Phillies opened the season on the road instead of being at home when the first game of the season got underway. Last year, the Phillies opened at home and dropped the first two games to Atlanta. The Phils also lost the first two games at home in 2008, the year they won the World Series. The Phils also lost the first three games in 2007 when they lost the opening series to Atlanta. It is awesome that they are 5-1 so far this season as they open at home in 2010. The last time the Phillies opened the season on the road was 2004 when they were managed by Larry Bowa.

The 128th season for the Phillies is about to get underway in Philadelphia with Cole Hamels on the mound. Festivities at the stadium kick off at noon, and then the first pitch should be thrown at 3:07 PM.
