Phils take game 2 with Nationals - are Dodgers on the horizon for playoffs?

The Phils are letting it all hang out in the last 4 games!

The Phillies handled the Washington Nationals the way they should have on Wednesday night at Citizen's Bank Park. The team is starting to pull things together and act more like a team that is ready to win and build upon that. Yes, I know it's only the Nationals but the Phillies have turned it up a notch or two in the last 5 days. Jason Werth has been playing like a right fielder who is possessed. He is trying to throw runners out from right field at first base, hitting grand slams like the one he hit tonight! What more could he do to contribute to the success of this team?
The magic number is now 11, and that number can really start to dwindle from here on in as long as the Phillies keep winning and the Marlins and Braves lose. Those two teams are fighting for their playoff lives with every game now. To put the distance now between the Phillies and the Marlins is what is really needed before the end of the regular season. I wouldn't want the final three games to figure in the winner of the division and it just so happens to be the Marlins that the Phillies end the regular season in three weeks.
At this time, the computer projections are leaning towards the LA Dodgers as the most likely opponent that the Phillies will face in the Division Series. This can change as well over time, but at this point that is what the computer projections are saying. The Marlins won again today against the St. Louis Cardinals, so they aren't exactly throwing in the towel at this point. The Braves are still playing the Mets as I write this so the Braves can still slip to 10 with a loss as their elimination number.

There are 18 games left in the regular season as of the end of play today, September 16, 2009. Six of those games are against the Marlins. Stay tuned, there is still a lot of baseball to be played during this final stretch!
