Phils steam roll red hot Braves 9-4

Braves Fans have had a lot to cheer about, these girls entertain in between innings and it's become a big part of Atlanta Brave baseball down there

The Atlanta Braves were a team on the up swing, they won their last 7 games coming into tonight's game against the Phillies. The Phillies meanwhile have been on their own win streak. They too have been on a roll of late, winning five in a row and now 6 in a row with a win against the Braves. Both teams were 8-2 in their last 10 games coming into tonight's game.

J.A. Happ returned to pitch tonight, but left after 3.0 innings in what the Phillies called, "a precautionary move." Happ appeared to have injured himself running off the mound and he was pulled out of the game. Kyle Kendrick came on to pitch a wonderful game and earn the win for the Phillies. This must be a dream come true for Kyle who had been on the Phillies trade list mentions just at the end of August. The story for this game was Ryan Howard with two long home runs, and then being hit by a high and tight fastball that Ryan didn't move very fast away from. There was a graphic on MLB.com tonight saying "Howard Carrying Phillies in Atlanta." He is doing very well, I still think it's all team effort though and I haven't fell under the spell that ESPN seems to have with Ryan Howard that he is the best thing to happen to the Phillies. The Phillies have a whole talented team that succeeds well together and Howard is a piece of this success.

Jason Werth added an important two rbi single scoring Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley tonight, in a great display of scoring runners in scoring position. This has been a good lesson for the Phillies on how to do this, you get guys on base, and then get a well placed him like Werth did, and score the runners. Jimmy Rollins added a ninth inning three run home run himself to give the Phillies an added cushion in the victory tonight. Ben Francisco went deep right after Rollins and the Phils unleashed that juggernaut offense that they are capable of.

Hard to believe the Atlanta Braves couldn't fill the ballpark better, as they really are racing for a playoff position possibly. There were many open seats to be had all over the park and it looked as if the fans have deserted the Braves down there in Atlanta. Tom McCarthy, Phillies broadcaster, offered his opinion on the broadcast of the game saying that 'high school football' is very big around the Atlanta area and that could be a reason for the lack of fan support.

Two more games remain in the Atlanta series, then it's off to Florida for three games in two days. The Phillies now go up on the Braves by a more comfortable margin than before the game started. The elimination number for both the Marlins and the Braves is 8. This means any combination of Phillies wins or a loss by the Braves or Marlins moves the magic number towards eliminating those teams from the post season.
