Let's not panic over interleague play... McCarthy must be fired soon!

Another game another bad result, the Phillies leave Tampa/St.Pete with a lot of problems. I don't understand what is happening out there to this team, but I still don't think it's time to panic yet. Given the state of the injuries of the team recently, this is a tough time for the Phillies and it is showing.

It's only a few more games of interleague play, and we'll be back to 'regular' baseball. Games against the NL East, and familiar territory where the Phillies excel.

If anything, I can't take listening to Tom McCarthy's call of a game anymore. I don't really know if he knows how stupid he sounds to Phillies fans. The reflection in his voice when the 'other' team is doing well is that he is happy about it, and it actually sounds like he enjoys it when the Phillies are doing bad. It is so incredible that the Phillies are actually paying him to sound like he does. I am thinking about a petition to rid our houses of hearing his voice during the game, I am fed up with his call of a game. On the radio side, Scott Franzke always sounds upset when the other team that the Phillies are playing does well, as does Larry Anderson. Why must we be subject to McCarthy then? It's very annoying. He's always talking pitch counts, I don't care about a pitch count Tom...... I just don't care how many pitches a Phillies pitcher has thrown in an inning, and he always says it when things are going wrong.. What's wrong with this guy?

  2. Rich,
While "home town" announcers are great, I do appreciate T-Mac trying to call the game rather objectivly. I don't think he's happy when the other team is doing well, but think he does a good job of being a solid overall announcer with great knowledge of the game. That being said, it can be annoying to hear positive inflection in his voice while Bastardo is giving up long ball after long ball. I enjoy listening to Larry tell it like it is on the radio, not caring about how he sounds or what anyone thinks. I really hate listening to the obviously biased annoucers on other teams though. The Nationals and the White Sox have some of the worst announcers in baseball, because they are obvious homers. Anyway, the point of my rambling is that I think McCarthy is a good announcer and a great baseball man... but could stand for just a little bit more bias in him, just not too much.

  3. Agreed, he is professional but he goes out of his way to mash things in Phillies fans faces. If he was a national broadcaster I would think he was doing ok, but as a Phillies paid announcer he is a disgrace.

Personally, I think he is a nice person, but he sounds like a complete jackass when he is being paid by a team and he constantly enjoys ragging them, he isn't a big fan of the Phillies like Wheeler, Franzke, and Sarge, and Anderson.

  4. Noted. I'll be paying closer attention when T-Mac is announcing and the opposing team is doing well, because he's actually never bothered me. If we could acquire a new announcer or a new starting pitcher, which would you take? Haha, I'll take the pitcher.

  5. To be honest with you it's not his lack of being a homer that's an issue for me. I do think he isn't very good at calling the game. His analysis is horrible - makes bad assumptions. He's pretty much out of his league when he's with Wheeler - who really knows the game even though I've never been in love with him.

Tough to be the person to follow a legend, but the Phillies can do better than him.
